   Dark-Emitting  Diode  (that  is,  a  burned-out  LED). Compare {SED},
   {LER},  {write-only  memory}.  In  the early 1970s both Signetics and
   Texas  instruments released DED spec sheets as {AFJ}s (suggested uses
   included "as a power-off indicator").
